Filing Thresholds for 2014

If your gross income meets or exceeds the following levels and you are under age 65, you must file a tax return in 2014:

Single $ 10,150
Head of Household $13,050
Married Filing Jointly $20,300
Married Filing Separately $ 3,950
Qualifying Widow or Widower $16,350

If you were 65 or older by the end of 2014, you can add $1,550 to the amounts shown above for single filers or a head of household. If one of the spouses filing jointly is 65 or older, add an extra $1,200. If both spouses are 65 or older on a joint return, you can add $2,400 to the amount shown, so the threshold would be $22,700. There is no additional amount available for married filing separately.
