No matter what you may think to the contrary (insert favorite lawyer horror story here), attorneys do have their uses (insert favorite lawyer joke here). But seriously, lawyers really can be of considerable value when it comes to making a will.
The logical syllogism supporting the above statement is quite simple. Lawyers are professionals that regularly work with laws and draft legal documents. Wills are legal documents based on applicable laws. The logical conclusion, therefore, is that lawyers can draft a will for you based on their knowledge of applicable law and experience in drafting legal documents.
There is a lot of merit to this logical conclusion. Just like with many other issues in life, however, the obvious choice to make is not quite as simple.
