State savings plans are growing increasingly popular when it comes to investing for educational purposes. Every state offers a college savings plan of some sort. While the programs vary in the ways they are offered, they can be grouped into two general categories:

• prepaid tuition plans
• qualified state tuition programs

Qualified state tuition programs in particular, have advantages and disadvantages that you need to know about before you make a decision on where to put your investment dollars.
